Abstract: This study examines the challenges and solutions of implementing
tauhid education for children in Muslim families. Early tauhid education is
essential for developing children’s faith, morals, and character through
parental role modeling and habitual religious practices. Major challenges
include parents’ limited understanding, daily busyness, and the influence of
digital media. This study uses a library research method by analyzing articles
and Islamic education journals in Indonesia. The findings show that effective
tauhid education can be achieved through active parental involvement,
age-appropriate approaches, and the careful use of digital media.

INTRODUCTION
Tauhid education is a
fundamental foundation in shaping a Muslim’s belief system by providing moral
and spiritual values that guide daily behavior. Within the family, tauhid
education is not merely about acknowledging the oneness of Allah SWT, but it
must also be applied in practice in real-life contexts, requiring a foundation
from an early age. In today’s era of globalization and digitalization,
challenges are increasingly evident, which can influence children’s
understanding of aqidah if early tauhid education is not supported.
The family environment is seen as the initial learning space for
children before they enter school and interact with society. As primary
educators, parents play a crucial role in introducing tauhid principles and
ensuring that children internalize positive values, such as performing prayers
regularly and following the good examples set by their parents.
However, implementing tauhid education in Muslim families faces various challenges in the modern era. The presence of digital media and social platforms delivers a wide range of information that may affect children’s thinking and spiritual direction. This highlights the importance of conducting in-depth studies through a literature review of articles and Islamic education journals in Indonesia, aiming to understand the dynamics, challenges, and strategies in implementing tauhid education within Muslim families.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Tauhid education in the Muslim family environment is essential for
building faith and spiritual character from an early age. The family serves as
the first “school” influencing the child’s mindset, values, and beliefs.
According to Yahya et al. (2025), thoughts that are inconsistent with Islamic
principles can affect children’s thinking if not balanced with strong religious
education; therefore, strengthening parental roles and monitoring digital media
consumption are effective preventive measures. This emphasizes that the family
is not only the first socialization place but also the primary pillar in
maintaining children’s aqidah.
Furthermore, early tauhid education plays a key role in shaping
children’s faith and moral character. Aminullah et al. (2025) explain that
tauhid, as the core of faith education, develops children not only in belief
but also in moral resilience to face contemporary challenges. This perspective
highlights that tauhid education involves cognitive, affective, and contextual
aspects. Therefore, values of faith must be reflected in daily interactions
between parents and children.
However, implementing tauhid education in Muslim families faces
several challenges. Yahya et al. (2025) mention that the rapid and open flow of
digital information can influence children’s understanding of faith. Internal
family challenges, such as parents’ limited time and lack of knowledge
regarding effective tauhid education strategies, may hinder consistent
application of religious values (Sulistyanto & Styawati, 2025). This
situation emphasizes that tauhid education requires careful planning and a deep
understanding of effective teaching methods.
The role of parents as primary educators is crucial for successful
tauhid education. Sulistyanto & Styawati (2025) stress that parents must be
good role models in practicing faith, as modeling is the most effective method
for internalizing tauhid values. Without active involvement and consistency,
tauhid education remains normative without impacting children’s character.
Muhtadi (2025) adds that the urgency of tauhid education in families is high,
as the family is the main basis for children to truly believe in the oneness of
Allah SWT and form a strong faith identity.
Based on the
literature review, it can be concluded that tauhid education in Muslim families
is a fundamental need that faces various challenges in the modern era.
Strengthening parental roles, maintaining consistency in providing good
examples, and applying appropriate approaches are key to supporting this
educational process.
RESEARCH METHOD
This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research
method. The data were collected from articles and journals related to Islamic
education in Indonesia, particularly those discussing tauhid education and
faith within the context of Muslim families, published within the last four
years. Data collection involved searching online academic journals using
relevant keywords and selecting them based on topic relevance and research
focus. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis by identifying
concepts of tauhid education, implementation methods within families,
challenges faced, and solutions offered by researchers. The analysis results
are presented in a descriptive-analytical format to provide a comprehensive
understanding of the application of tauhid values from an early age within
Muslim family environments.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The literature review indicates that tauhid education within Muslim families is a key step in developing children’s faith from an early age. Fajri et al. (2023) explain that introducing tauhid should begin within the family using a loving approach and good parental examples, as the family is the first place for children to understand the concept of divinity. This finding indicates that success in tauhid education heavily depends on the quality of the parent-child relationship in daily activities.
Challenges in Implementing Tauhid Education for Children
The research also identifies significant obstacles in implementing
tauhid education. Major challenges arise from the digital era, parents’ limited
time, and insufficient understanding of effective tauhid education methods
suitable for child development (Sulistyanto & Styawati, 2025).
Additionally, tauhid education that focuses too much on theory without good
practical examples is considered less effective in fostering children’s faith
awareness (Naqib & Darnoto, 2023).
Solutions to Challenges in Implementing Tauhid Education
To overcome these
challenges, several strategic solutions are proposed. First, parents’ role as
primary examples in practicing faith is crucial, as modeling is more effective
than mere advice (Sulistyanto & Styawati, 2025). Second, tauhid education should
be implemented contextually and gradually according to children’s age, linking
tauhid concepts to daily activities and simple worship practices (Naqib &
Darnoto, 2023). Third, digital media should be used wisely as a supportive tool
for faith education, not as a replacement for parental guidance (Muhtadi,
2025).
Overall, the
findings show that challenges in tauhid education within Muslim families can be
addressed if parents possess awareness, consistency, and sufficient
understanding of faith education. Effective tauhid education requires active
parental involvement, age-appropriate approaches, and the family’s ability to
respond wisely to contemporary challenges.
CONCLUSION
Early tauhid education in Muslim families is fundamental for building children’s faith and character. Families play a role as role models through regular worship and religious communication. Challenges such as parents’ limited understanding, daily busyness, and the influence of digital media can be addressed through flexible approaches, active parental involvement, and wise use of digital media. With consistent effort, tauhid education within families can be effectively implemented and shape children’s religious character.
